All our web hosting plans described on this site provide for registering a unique domain name for your web site so you are seen to the world as "". We are currently registering domain names for .com, .org, .net, .biz, .info, and .name.

STEP ONE: Review and Understand the Basics

Domain Name Fees and Registration Periods
Why Would You Need a Domain Name?
  • Increases your name recognition
  • Makes it easy for your customers to remember your address
  • Indicates you are a serious Internet player
  • Helps brand your image
  • Adds a level of trust and integrity to your site
  • Many search engines refuse to list pages from free sites.
  • Some search engines will only index the first page of a domain site
  • Allows you to use your domain address ( and virtual email addresses ( on your business cards and letterhead.
  • Once a domain name has been registered, it is no longer available. The most popular and easily-remembered domain names are being reserved daily, at the rate of over 300,000 per month!
  • At that rate, in the near future, only obscure domain names will be available to the general public.
  • Avoids somebody else from registering the name you want.
  • Lets you change your current email provider and still keep the same email address
  • Protects your Internet advertising investment from failure of your Internet Service Provider
Guidelines for Choosing a Name
  • The domain name you choose can be up to 63 characters before you add the .com, .net or .org extension.
  • Letters and numbers are always valid characters in domain names.
  • Hyphens may also be used but cannot begin or end your domain name.
  • Spaces and special characters are never permitted in domain names.
  • The special characters include (but are not limited to) these special characters: + . , | ! " £ $ % & / ( ) = ? ^ * ç ° § ; : _ > ] [ @ );

IMPORTANT: Do a trademark search on your proposed name! Just because a name is available as a domain doesn't mean that it can't potentially conflict with a trademarked name later on. You can lose a domain name if it turns out to be previously held as a trademark!

Domain Naming Tips
  • Keep it as short as possible
  • Make it memorable
  • Make it easy to spell
  • Make it pronounceable
  • Make it directly related to either your business's name or
  • Make it directly related to keywords from your industry
Special Consideration for Domain Name Transfers

If you want to transfer to EONI a domain that you have previously registered elsewhere, you have special responsibilities and actions that will be required by your existing domain registrar before they will allow us to assume control of your domain. EONI does not have control over this part of the process, and cannot guarantee that such transfer can be accomplished in a predetermined span of time.

Reasons that a domain transfer may be rejected

  • The listed email address for the Admin contact is no longer valid.
  • The domain name has been registered or transferred in the last 60 days: ICANN* policy prevents transfers from being conducted in this timeframe.
  • The domain is locked or expired.
  • There is an ongoing dispute related to the name and therefore it has been locked.

In order for Eastern Oregon Net to transfer your domain, the following has to be addressed:

  • Domain admin contact email address must be a valid email address. If this is not the case you will need to go to the registrar that currently has the domain and make arrangements with them to change this email address to one that is checked on a regular basis.
  • The domain must be at least 60 days old. This means that in order to transfer the domain it must have been registered more than 60 days ago. If this is not the case Eastern Oregon Net Inc. cannot transfer the domain. However we would be happy to submit the transfer once the domain is 60 days old.
  • The domain cannot be locked or expired at the current registrar. If the domain is expired you will need to bring it up to date at the current registrar before we can transfer the domain. Also if the domain is locked at the current registrar you must unlock the domain before it can be transferred. This can be done by logging on to manage your domain at your current registrar and unlocking it . Or if you do not have your username and password to manage the domain you will need to contact the current registrar to get that information.
  • There can be no pending disputes in regards to the domain name. If that is the case the disputes will have to be resolved before we can attempt to transfer the domain name.
