FILE OF LIFE
Do you have a File of Life? It could save your life or that of a loved one.
The red plastic jacket envelope that you attach to your refrigerator contains the vital health information needed by emergency personnel when 911 is called to your home. There should be a red jacket for each person in the house or apartment with individual information. This information tells the emergency (fire/EMT/ambulance) personnel how to treat you correctly---your allergies, your medication, your health condition, heart, diabetes, etc.---so that valuable time is saved and you will not be given the wrong treatment--for example, a drug that you're allergic to or an overdose of something you're already taking. This information is then taken with you to the emergency facility at the hospital where it is so necessary.
You are also advised to include in the jacket a copy of your Living Will or Directive to Physicians form which you can obtain from Good Shepherd Medical Center Hospital Community Resources Department 667-3509. The fire department and emergency personnel in Hermiston, Irrigon, Umatilla, Echo and Stanfield are trained to look for this red jacket on your refrigerator. The jackets and forms are being distributed free by the Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxillary has provided the church office with several of these red jacket envelopes, stop by and pick some up.
