Video is everywhere on the Web. Some is legit and some is not. If you are being prompted to download "codecs" or "players" or "browser updates" to watch videos online, you are simply inviting malware into your computer!
Legitimate sites, like YouTube, never have to make this demand because an up-to-date browser will automatically handle video on its own. Some sites do use Flash technology to play video. If you see a message that you need to download Flash if your browser doesn't support it, go directly to Adobe, the creator of Flash, to get it. Always use the official sites to download any video players or browser updates.
